The Lake in the Hills Airport was awarded the 2010 Reliever Airport of the Year award from the Illinois Department of Transportation's Division of Aeronautics.  The award is granted to an airport based on its safety record, maintenance of the facility and its cooperation with the Division of Aeronautics and Federal Aviation Administration.   The Lake in the Hills Airport is a designated FAA reliever airport for Chicago O'Hare.  With one paved runway, 139 based aircraft, and 40,000 annual operations, the Airport represents 2.63% of the total impact of Illinois reliever airports. The Lake in the Hills airport has been estimated to generate a total economic impact of over $19 million annually in McHenry County.
