Financial Incentives

On August 28, 2007, Governor Blagojevich signed Senate Bill 1592 into law, which includes aggressive standards for energy efficiency and a renewable energy.  These standards essentially require that Illinois utilities (ComEd in Lake in the Hills) reduce the overall electric usage and demand by their customers.  This law has created a substantial budget for programs and incentives meant to reduce electrical energy usage.

How much is out there?

Year 1 (2008):  $50 million

ComEd and Ameren Illinois - $38 million on residential, commercial and industrial customers

Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic (DCEO) - $12 million on low income and public sectors.

Year 2:  Over $100 million

Year 3:  Over $150 million

This is, by far, the largest opportunity Illinois has had for energy efficiency and demand reduction.

Residential Incentives

As a residential customer of ComEd, there are a number of incentive programs available to you.  Some of these are listed below, but you can get additional information by visiting ComEd's website.

  • Energy Star Lighting - ComEd offers discounts on select energy star lighting products

Commerical / Industrial Incentives

ComEd is offering incentives under the "ComEd Smart Ideas for Your Business Program" to facilitate the implementation of cost-effective energy-efficiency improvements for non-residential (commercial and industrial) customers.  These incentives are available on a first-come, first-served basis and there is a limit of $100,000 per site.

To apply for these incentives, you will first need to review the eligibility requirements listed below:

  • You must be a non-residential (commercial and industrial) customer within ComEd’s service territory.  These incentives are available to all customers who receive their electricity over ComEd wires regardless of which retail electric supplier the customer has chosen to purchase power from.
  • Purchase energy efficiency equipment or services or contract or conduct work no earlier than June 1, 2008.
  • Install measures for energy savings on a meter with an eligible rate schedule.  Most non-residential rate schedules are eligible.  Please contact ComEd for a list of rate schedules and specific guidelines on eligibility.

From here, simply visit ComEd's website for detailed information on their five (5) step application process.  Some additional, helpful links for this program are below:
