As Lake in the Hills has grown, so too has the police department. You will find in your review of the services available, that the Department has evolved into a full service Police Department that is comprised of one of the most professional and community-minded group of law enforcement professionals in the State of Illinois.

The Lake in the Hills Police Department is a leader in McHenry County in the area of officer training. There are numerous benefits to providing constant and effective training. Through training, officers stay current in a field that is constantly changing.  It also reduces the department's liability exposure and increases the effectiveness of the employees. Training helps the department reduce crime and achieve its goals.  Officers are encouraged to seek higher education at all times either on their own or through the department.

Crime Tips

The Lake in the Hills Police Department wants to ensure that all the neighborhoods in the village are safe for our citizens.  While we try to do this through conventional means (i.e. patrol and other forms of police presence) we sometimes need help.  As a citizen of our community, you often times see things that we don't.  We encourage you to use this page to advise us of criminal or suspicious activity that you observe.   Please be aware that any tips provided through this form are anonymous and cannot be replied to unless you provide your contact information.

Safety Town

The construction of Safety Town began on April 24, 2004.  Volunteers came out to help build the little town that is located behind the Lake in the Hills Police Department Safety Education Center.  Safety Town has 4 blocks with 16 miniature buildings some of which include; Boulder Ridge Country Club, Dominick's, Northern Illinois Flight Center, Govnor's, and the Police Department just to name a few.

Safety Town is being used as a setting to teach children between the ages of 4-6 various safety topics which include; crossing the street, bicycle safety, traffic lights and pedestrian safety which will all be taught by Officers and various guest speakers.  The image to the left below shows Sgt. Terri Vollmer, Officer Randy Story, Robert Long, Jo Mason, and Jack Mason at the grand opening/unveiling of the Safety Education Center on June 5, 2004.  Thank you to these individuals and all of the volunteers that came together to help on this project, they have done an outstanding job.
