August LaBahn purchased the property from James Philp in 1884. In 1916, Mr. LaBahn’s widow deeded the land to her son, Charles F. LaBahn. On August 3, 1948, Robert Cleveland Hain and his mother, Elsye Rosilyn Hain, purchased the lot at 149 Hilltop Drive in the newly developed subdivided community of Lake in the Hills Estates. Between 1989 and 1990, the house became the property of the Village. The Lake in the Hills Historical Society established the Hain House Committee in November of 1997 for the purpose of restoration and renovation of the property. The House was open to the public in 2000 for the use of a Parks & Recreation program space. Today the house is utilized daily by programs, classes, special interest groups, and rentals on the weekends.
