Community Development Department

Mission Statement

The mission of the Lake in the Hills Community Development Department is to guide land development through a comprehensive planning process and administer the Village's ordinances and policies in a fair, efficient and professional manner in order to promote and safeguard the health, safety and welfare of our citizens.  The Department is also committed to taking a proactive approach in working with our citizens, businesses and other agencies on carrying out our mission and educating them on the benefits of our objectives.

The Community Development Department oversees land management activities in the Village as well as the coordination of community development programs.  The department is responsible for monitoring all phases of construction and development throughout the Village to assure health and life safety regulations are adhered to.  It is also responsible for administering the Village's Zoning and Subdivision Control Ordinance and the Comprehensive Plan.  In addition, the Community Development Department provides staff support to the Planning and Zoning Commission.  The department consists of the Administrative/Planning and Building and Zoning Divisions.

Dan Olson is the Director of the Community Development Department. Dan is responsible for coordination of the programs and activities of the Department including planning, zoning and land management. Dan has a Masters Degree in Geography from Northern Illinois University and has 20 years of experience in municipal planning and zoning. Dan is a member of the American Planning Association and the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).
