The
construction of Safety Town began on April 24, 2004. Volunteers
came out to help build the little town that is located behind the
Lake in the Hills Police Department Safety Education Center.
Safety Town has 4 blocks with 16 miniature buildings some of which
include; Boulder Ridge Country Club, Dominick's, Northern Illinois
Flight Center, Govnor's, and the Police Department just to name a
few.
Safety Town is being used as a
setting to teach children between the ages of 4-6 various safety
topics which include; crossing the street, bicycle safety, traffic
lights and pedestrian safety which will all be taught by Officers
and various guest speakers. The image to the left below shows
Sgt. Terri Vollmer, Ofc. Randy Story, Robert Long, Jo Mason, and
Jack Mason at the grand opening/unveiling of the Safety Education
Center on June 5, 2004. Thank you to these individuals and all of
the volunteers that came together to help on this project, they
have done an outstanding job.
