Senior Transportation Services
Grafton Township Residents If you are a senior aged 55+, you may place a ride reservations by calling (847) 669-8500. The Grafton service is available from 9:00am to 3:00pm, Monday through Friday. Fares for a one way trip within the Township are $1.00, with any intermediate stop being $0.50. Limited locations outside the township (Huntley Outlet Mall, Randall Road Shopping, Centegra Woodstock, Crystal Lake Train Station) are $2.00 per one way trip.
Algonquin Township Residents If you are a senior aged 50+, you may place a ride reservations by calling (847) 639-2700, extension 6. The Algonquin service is available from 7:00am to 3:00pm, Monday through Friday. Fares for a one way trip are $1.00, with any intermediate stop being $0.50.
· All ride reservations must be scheduled a minimum of 24 hours.· Disabled Individuals who are collecting social security disability are also eligible for the services.· Door to door service is available.· Please allow a 30 minute window for pick-up and drop-off times.Should you have any questions regarding these services, you may call either of the Township offices, Grafton at (847) 669-8500, Algonquin at (847-639-2700, ext. 6 or contact the Village at (847) 960-7412.
Senior Afternoon Bingo
Seniors can meet at Village Hall once a month, on Friday afternoons, from 1:00 - 3:00pm for an afternoon bingo game. Come on out for an afternoon snack, coffee, and two hours of bingo. Please pre-register for this activity. Call 847-960-7460 for more information. Upcoming dates include July 25 and August 15.
Free Senior Workshops The Consumer and Family Economic division of the University of Illinois Extension Program is pleased to offer seniors in the area workshops with beneficial information and activities that will have an emphasis on issues pertaining to seniors. Learn about situations for the present day and how to ensure your future assets. Please pre-register for each class. You can register by calling Trevor at 847-960-7469. The program, offers seniors the opportunity to reserve a meeting time with Ms. Wick to review or create a simple will at no cost. The meeting times available are either 1:30p.m., 2:30 p.m. or 3:30p.m. on the first Thursday of each month. The meetings will be held at Village Hall, 600 Harvest Gate, Lake in the Hills. With space being limited and appointments filling quickly, you will want to reserve your date/time as soon as possible. You must be at least 60 years of age, a Lake in the Hills resident, and an appointment must be made in advance by calling 847-960-7460.
Lake in the Hills Senior's Club The Lake in the Hills Senior’s Club is an organization to bring seniors together to meet new people and have some fun. In addition to playing bingo and cards, they have a monthly guest speaker. They also participate in holiday luncheons and a variety of “mini trips.” The Senior’s Club meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month at 9:30am in the LaBahn Hain House. It costs $6.00 per year to join and is open to all seniors 62 years and older. For more information, contact Maryanne Miloch at (847) 658-6963.
Senior Tax Programs
Senior Citizen's Homestead Exemption A $3,500 reduction in the assessed value of property. To qualify for this exemption a person must be 65 years of age or older during the taxable year for which application is made and must be the owner of record or person with equitable interest in the property.
Senior Citizen Assessment Freeze Homestead Exemption Allows qualified senior citizens to elect to maintain the equalized assessed value of their home at the base year value and prevent any increase due to inflation. The base year is the year prior to the year you first qualify and apply for the exemption. The assessment freeze exemption does not freeze the amount of your property tax bill, which will still increase if the tax rate increases. To qualify you must be 65 years of age or older during the taxable year and have a total household income of no more than $50,000. You must have owned the property or had legal or equitable interest in the property, or had a leasehold interest in the residence, and be liable for the payment of property as your principal place of residents. The Application must be made by July 1.

Senior Citizens Real Estate Tax Deferral Allows qualified Seniors to defer all or part of property tax on their owner-occupied residents. It's a form of loan with a six percent interest rate which is repaid after the taxpayers death or at the time the property is sold. Must be at least 65 years of age by June 1, household income not more than $40,000 and occupied the property for at least three years. Must file by March 1. Circuit Breaker Qualified applicants can receive a grant of $1 to $700. Available to persons over age 65 and those disabled over age 16.
