Street crews are
responsible for the patching and general maintenance of
streets. Included within their job responsibilities are such
items as street sweeping, pavement markings, weed abatement, and
the creation and maintenance of all regulatory street signs. If
the weather is favorable, our goal is to have the street sweeper
in operation every day.

Weather
permitting, the street sweeping program consists of
attending to every accepted street in the village once a month.
The best results are attained during dry periods. The street
sweeper uses curb-directed water sprayers to minimize dust.
Rainy weather minimizes effective cleaning, although streets can
be swept shortly after a rain event. The village staff does not
sweep during below freezing weather or if ice is present in the
curbs. Utilizing its dual capabilities, the street sweeping
apparatus is also used for cleaning storm sewer catch basins.
The fleet maintenance staff
maintains a Village vehicles and equipment through an
established preventative maintenance program. Also, the division
makes other repairs as needed.
Winter Weather Services
Snow Plowing and Ice Control
on Village streets are top
priority items during the winter season. Each driver is
pre-assigned a specific section to maintain until it is
finished, then may aid in another section as needed.
Initially crews
plow off any accumulated snow on the streets and apply salt to
each street immediately upon clearing to prevent icing, clearing
the inner main streets and more hilly areas of each section
first. Even after this application melts down, the resulting
brine continues to aid in melt-off with the aid of vehicle
traffic. The higher traffic on main streets spreads the brine
giving them the appearance of being even clearer.
Damaged Mailboxes
If you believe that your properly placed mailbox is damaged by
Village equipment, please contact the Public Works Department at
960-7500. If the damage was caused by physical contact from
Village equipment, repairs will be made. The Village cannot be
responsible for improperly placed or unsecured installations. |
