Great Central U.S. ShakeOut

The Lake in the Hills Police Department will be participating in the second annual Great Central U.S. ShakeOut and we encourage residents of Lake in the Hills to do the same. The Great Central U.S. ShakeOut is a day of special events featuring the largest earthquake drill ever, organized to inspire central U.S. residents to get ready for big earthquakes, and to prevent disasters from becoming catastrophes. What we do now, before a big earthquake, will determine what our lives will be like afterwards. The ShakeOut drill will occur in houses, businesses, and public spaces alike throughout the central U.S. at 10:15 a.m. on February 7, 2012.  For more information, visit www.ShakeOut.org/centralus

Emergency Notification System

The Lake in the Hills Police Department will be urging residents to sign up for the Self Registration Portal (SRP) which is an additional feature to the GeoCast Web Emergency Notification System.  The GeoCast system provided through the McHenry County Emergency Telephone System Board allows Police Departments to notify residents of emergency situations via landline phones.  The Self Registration Portal will now allow residents to receive those same emergency alerts via cellular telephone, text message, or email.  The web link: https://mchenryco.onthealert.com will connect users to the portal.  After accepting the terms and conditions, follow the instructions for emergency notification registration.  Using Bing maps, the latitude and longitude of the resident’s address are calculated, with the location appearing on a digital street level display.  If the position is incorrect, the person can easily reposition the pin to the exact location of the address.  Participants may return to the SRP using a secure login to update their personal contact information as often as needed.

Randall Road Improvement Plan

At the January 12, 2012 meeting, the Village Board of Trustees unanimously passed a resolution to voice its support of a conventional intersection design for the Randall and Algonquin Road Intersection Improvement for the following reasons:

  • The cost of the project with a Conventional Intersection is $20,000,000 less than with a Continuous Flow Intersection (CFI).

  • The CFI would possibly require two businesses to relocate to new properties in addition to closing four business access driveways and restricting five more to right turn only.

  • With the CFI, traffic would be routed behind the loading docks of both Caputo's and Jewel.

  • The CFI would be the first of its kind in the state and would cause confusion for drivers and, in turn, increase the number of vehicle accidents.

  • The Conventional Intersection only requires 17.5 acres of land while the CFI requires 19.5 acres.

  • The reduction in travel time anticipated for the CFI does not justify the adverse impacts to our community.

Residents are encouraged to voice their support of a conventional intersection design through submitting written comments online through the project website at www.randallroad.info, or mailed to MCDOT at 16111 Nelson Road, Woodstock, IL 60098, no later than February 23, 2012.

Municipal Aggregation of Electricity

Recent changes in electrical regulation by the State of Illinois have given residents the ability to purchase their electricity from another supplier besides Commonwealth Edison (ComEd).  As part of those regulation changes, municipalities may also bid the cost of electricity on behalf of residents in order to achieve even greater savings.  However, in order to do so, the Village must first gain public support through an advisory referendum.

At the November 10, 2011 Village Board Meeting, the Board of Trustees approved Ordinance 2011-31 - Providing for the Submission to the Electors of the Village of Lake in the Hills, Illinois, McHenry County, the Question whether the Village should have the Authority under Public Act 096-0176 to Arrange for the Supply of Electricity for its Residential and Small Commercial Retail Customers who have not Opted Out of Such Program.

Should the voters support this referendum, the Village would have the ability to bid the cost of electricity on behalf of residents from another supplier besides Commonwealth Edison (ComEd) in order to achieve greater savings.
