National Night Out

National Night Out

National Night Out is a program designed to get the Village’s neighborhoods involved in a “stand against crime in their community.”  This event includes several block parties throughout the Village, attended by Police Officers and Village Officials, a car show and a Community Cook Out with many static displays and demonstrations. The event has been a major program for the Police Department over the past several years and has been viewed as a key opportunity to build and enhance the partnership with the citizens of the community.

A key to the success of this program is the involvement not only of Police Department personnel, but volunteers from within the community who assist in a number of ways to ensure that the various events of this program are successful.

An example of this partnership can be seen in the Community Cook Out, where a variety of police agencies hold demonstrations and local police personnel cook up free hot dogs for participants. It can be seen throughout the Block Parties, where citizens coordinate a host of activities for neighbors to meet and greet, not only other neighbors but personnel from the Police Department and Village Officials.
