At its June 12, 2025 meeting, the Village Board of Trustees adopted a new Comprehensive Plan to guide Lake in the Hills for the next 10 to 15 years. The plan provides a modern roadmap addressing land use, transportation, housing, economic development, sustainability, and infrastructure.

The planning process began in October 2023 and included 18 months of public engagement, such as open houses, interviews, surveys, Steering Committee meetings, and community events. The plan introduces innovative strategies, including redevelopment opportunities for the Lake in the Hills Roots area, dynamic mixed-use concepts along Randall Road, community branding enhancements, forward-thinking infrastructure investments, and strategies to approach future development along the Route 47 and Airport corridors.

The new Comprehensive Plan replaces the prior plan last fully updated in 2002. The adoption ensures that the Village remains positioned to pursue grants, support developers, and make decisions that align with residents’ long-term priorities.
