Annual Draw Down of Woods Creek Lake

Post Date:11/03/2025 11:53 AM

The Public Works Department began the annual draw down of Woods Creek Lake on October 24 to perform an inspection of the dam, which is required by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The Village Engineer will inspect the body of the dam and the spillway for any defects and inspect the siphon to ensure that it is operating properly. The drawdown, inspection, and lake recovery process will take approximately three weeks.

It will take approximately four to five days to lower the lake, weather permitting. With ideal weather conditions, the lake will be at its minimum level of one to two feet below normal water levels by October 29. The inspection will be conducted during the week of October 27. The Village will close the gates and allow the natural recovery process to start immediately following the inspection. Full recovery of the lake should be complete by November 30, weather permitting.

The drawdown allows lakefront residents the opportunity to complete maintenance, restoration, and repairs to the shoreline and piers while the water is at its lowest level. Please note, residents are required to call our Community Development Department at 847-960-7400 before installing new docks or improving existing docks.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Public Works Department at 847-960-7500.
