Hertel's Coins is a locally owned and family-operated coin shop since 2009. This business received 17 nominations in the Community Service and Customer Service categories. In recent years, the Village has recognized businesses that have made big impacts through very large donations and gifts in kind. However, Hertel's Coins has demonstrated that even a small business can make an impact in the community on an individual level through every interaction they have. Many of the nominations received came from individuals who had experienced difficult and delicate circumstances in their lives and found not only high-quality customer service, but also comfort and generosity in working with Hertel's Coins.
"The husband and wife who run this shop are great people. They are very knowledgeable and provide top-notch customer service to anyone who walks in their door. They work hard on making sure everyone is happy and informed when making their purchase. They truly show their passion for their business day in and day out. They are honest and are always looking out for their customers."
“This is not your average coin shop. They know how to make you feel at ease when facing a difficult time. When working through an inheritance, not only is this an emotional time due to loss of a loved one but also stressful working to serve the needs of family members who expect their share. Going to Hertel’s Coins is like sitting down with family or friends. They make you comfortable even during an uncomfortable time. They are welcoming, have integrity, and ensure their client is informed of their options."
"Had such a knowledgeable experience here. They took the time to help me get the best information about my items. There was no pressure or anything. I would recommend doing business with Shaun or Brandy any day. Knowing you were taken care of and not taken advantage of."
The Lakehouse Tattoo
2120 W Algonquin Road
Lake in the Hills, IL 60156
Year Established in the Village: 2019
The Lakehouse Tattoo recently opened in Lake in the Hills in August of 2019. Despite being open for less than a year, The Lakehouse Tattoo received nominations in all three categories of the Gordon Larsen Awards, earning 90 nominations as a new business. In recognition of their quickly established reputation for customer service within Lake in the Hills, The Lakehouse Tattoo is being awarded the Best New Business category for 2019.
“Yes, this is a new business. However, in the very few months that they have been open, they have been very engaging with the community. Participating in community events, and hosting their own! I really feel like they care about the surrounding area, not to mention that they are caring and compassionate business people. Truly an asset to not only LITH, but McHenry County."
"The Lakehouse Tattoo deserves the Gordon Larsen Business Achievement Award. As one of the newest businesses in town, founders Rob Downs and Jeff Stoltz were so excited about remodeling their unit to get ready for the grand opening. They take pride in having their business in our community, took part in the Summer Sunset Festival parade, and are very accommodating to their clients for making appointments. Being very impressed by their many pieces of artistic tattoo-work motivated us to advertise their business to our friends and family members."
"The owners of the Lakehouse tattoo strive to help the community each and every day. They encourage their patrons and friends to donate items to the Lake in the Hills food pantry every time they have an event. They go above and beyond what any small business is expected to do."
"It is because of Rob Downs's kind heart and gentle hand that I will follow him wherever he goes. I could go to him with just an idea of a tattoo and when I show up, he has this beautiful drawing ready. I am so glad that he has opened up his own shop. He deserves this.
Butcher on the Block
Year Established in the Village: 2000
Butcher on the Block was established in Lake in the Hills in July of 2000. The business received over 130 nominations this year for customer service, in addition to nominations in other categories as well. Butcher on the Block is highly reputable and well known in the area for their customer service. This year especially, the Village received nominations that demonstrated above-and-beyond efforts to accommodate individuals and families in unique situations.
“From the moment you walk in, you are greeted with happy employees. Tom, the owner, is usually there working behind the counter or talking with customers. All of the employees are happy to recommend products to perfectly suit your needs. The product is always top-notch as well. Whether it’s a cut of steak, a slice of bacon, or a tasty sandwich. My family and I gladly drive over 20 minutes in order to purchase their products. They even have treats for my furry pups at home!"
“Every time I visit, owners and employees help me with what I need. Just recently, my husband had surgery and could not eat the skin on his favorite brat, bacon and cheese brat. The butcher took off the skin and made patties from the contents. He gave me specific directions for frying the patties. What a treat for my husband! Those brats made his day!"
“First, the products they sell are top-notch and absolutely the best. I've yet to find anything comparable in this region. Second, they're the most friendly, thoughtful, and best customer-driven business out there. They go over and above to fulfill any need the customer has. Their family atmosphere makes everyone feel like their family members. Lastly, they're a great employer. A growing business is sometimes hard to manage, and the Butcher on the Block does it well."
“If not for Butcher On The Block my family would not able to eat lunchmeat due to the fact that we have 2 in the house with Celiac Disease. We place an order each week. They prepare our meats and cheeses on clean slicers before opening so there is no chance for cross-contamination. They never judge or act frustrated as many people do when asked for gluten-free options. They know us and are understanding of our situation with this autoimmune disease. We are so very grateful to have this wonderful store. There are not many options for us to eat outside the home or purchase safe products that won't make us sick. We are so grateful for Butcher On The Block."
Ridler Window Tinting
Year Established in the Village: 2014
Ridler Window Tinting was established in Lake in the Hills in April of 2014. The business received 11 nominations this year for community service. Over the last several years, Ridler Window Tinting has taken it upon themselves to donate time and resources to provide window tinting to the Lake in the Hills Police Department, protecting officers from harmful UV rays. For this reason, Ridler Window Tinting has been selected as the 2019 President's Pick for the Gordon Larsen Business Achievement Awards.
“Mike Moore, owner of Ridler Window Tinting, has donated his own time and products to the Village of Lake in the Hills. Mike was approached by me a few years ago when the Police Department was looking into getting the windows tinted on the new Police vehicles. Mike explained the positives of window tinting and its relation to skin cancer. Studies have shown that window tints block up to 99% of harmful UV rays and provide a long-term solution to prevent the occurrence of skin cancer. With this information, installation of window tints on Police cars was approved. Mike took it upon himself then and still to this day continues to donate his time and product to the Village of Lake in the Hills Police Department.”
“The owner Mike Moore not only has outstanding customer service but his work is top-notch. He also has been giving to the community for multiple years. His commitment to customer service and the value he has for his customers and community it what every business owner should strive to mimic."
“Mike Moore is an invested member of the Lake in the Hills business community and engaged in community service. Mike has done an exceptional job of tinting the windows of the Police Department's vehicles at no cost to the Village. It has been Mike's way of giving back to the Village and community."
