Construction Updates for the New Police Department

This past week was the kickoff off of our build. Land clearing and excavation has started! Next week, community members can expect more of the same; land clearing and moving dirt from the build site.

Today we officially broke ground! We cannot thank everyone enough for all of the support for this project. Next week, residents and community members can expect to start to see construction activity and the beginning of the project to start with the moving of land an excavation.

We have groundbreaking news! On Friday, April 19th 2024 at 4:00 P.M. we will have our official groundbreaking ceremony for our new police facility.
The new police department will be built near the current Village Hall (600 Harvest Gate Drive) with a forthcoming address in the 2600 block of Village Hall Drive.
The police department anticipates some commercial truck activity in the area this coming week nearing the groundbreaking date. The project will start with site clearing and grading.
We would like our community to be well informed of the construction plan and phases as construction may temporarily cause additional truck traffic, noise, or dust during building.
To better assist community members, we encourage individuals to follow us on social media for updates. Community members may also visit our website at https://bit.ly/PDBuild for construction updates.
Lastly, the community may sign up for Nixle Emergency Text Messaging. Community update messages may be sent out as necessary for those Nixle subscribers who are signed up to receive non-emergency messages.
We sincerely appreciate the patience and understanding of our residents, businesses and community during this project. We are extremely excited for this huge milestone for the Village and are looking forward to sharing its progress along the way!

This past week community members were able to see crews begin to set up the construction site fencing around the property, continue working on site grading, working on adding site utilities, excavating and preparing for concrete to start in the next several weeks.

This past week the crew continued excavation and land clearing. Due care was taken to preserve the existing bricks as they were moved by the team to ensure they will be transferred safely to the new location of the Veterans Memorial upon conclusion of the construction. The memorial will be refreshed and relocated on the property, closer to the roadway, which should provide additional visibility for passers-by.
After the relocation, the Veterans Memorial will remain accessible as a commemorative gathering space to honor those who served.

The site really took on some changes this week. Mother Nature has made things interesting for our crews but they are doing a great job working around the rain and continuing to make progress. Concrete is on its way!

Crews are really moving along getting things ready for concrete. The site has taken addition shape and depth, site utilities are getting in place and crews are preparing for concrete. These foundational steps will take awhile but are crucial. And we are very thankful to the crews out there for the awesome job they are doing.

Today marks the end of seven weeks after we broke ground! And things are certainly looking different out there. The full construction fence is up and the site is taking shape. This past week was more land clearing, and really getting down into the earth. In the coming weeks the community can expect to see more moving of land, site utilities and preparation for concrete!

Mother Nature kept at it again this past week with more rain. But our crews worked around it and continued doing great things at the site. Crews are getting it prepped for concrete, which is coming here soon - as long we can get our weather to cooperate.

Twenty-two weeks ago we broke ground on a grass field. Now, our new future police department is laid out and we can see where individual rooms, halls, etc. will be Creating more structure is on the forefront. These crews are doing great work and we are grateful for each member making this building a reality for us.

Walls are still being worked on and it has been amazing watching the masons work. We now have full story masonry in place to both the south and west part of the building. Every day we are getting closer and closer to our new PD!

We are nearly a quarter of the way complete!! Scaffolding is up at the second floor level as crews work on the exterior walls. Large structural beams are in and concrete work continues.

Today's update comes with some snow and some cool inside and up close pictures, courtesy of our incredible building commissioner. Even with this cold and snowy weather, our construction crews carry on. We are so grateful for them working out there in these frosty conditions. They are doing an amazing job.
We will have only one more update in 2024 and cannot wait to compare how far we have come since April and throughout the last eight months.
