Lake in the Hills Village Hall, 600 Harvest Gate, serves as a polling location during early voting and also on election day for select precincts. Registered voters that live anywhere in McHenry County are able to vote at Village Hall during the early voting period. Illinois residents have several options when registering to vote:

• Register to Vote Online through the State Board of Elections Online Voter Application (Click here).
• Register to Vote In-Person at the Office of the McHenry County Clerk (Click Here for more information) or at Lake in the Hills Village Hall.
• Register to Vote by Mail with a mail-in application (Click Here). 

Residents can also register to vote at the Customer Service Department located in Village Hall, 600 Harvest Gate during the regular registration period. Regular registration is available year-round, except for the 27-day period prior to an election and re-opens two days following the election. Please call 847-960-7400 in advance to ensure that a registrar will be available at the time you wish to come in.

To register, residents must be 18 years or older, have lived at their current address for at least 30 days prior to the date of the next election and provide two forms of identification with at least one having their current address.  Naturalized citizens registering to vote must provide the date, place, and court of naturalization. Telephone number is optional but helpful.  The last 4-digits of the Social Security number are required by law, driver's license number is also acceptable.

Voters must be registered 28 days prior to an election.  Also, if you have moved or changed your name, you must re-register to be eligible to vote.

Are there any other voting sites in Lake in the Hills?

Village Hall is the only early voting site within Lake in the Hills. However, there are several additional early voting locations within McHenry County. Click here to find additional locations.

On Election Day, November 5, multiple polling locations will be open in Lake in the Hills and organized according to voter precincts. You may find your precinct’s polling location on the McHenry County Clerk’s site here.

How long are wait times?

Though we do not actively monitor wait times, our staff has noted that the crowd fluctuates throughout the day. If you arrive and find the line is too long, you may view additional early voting dates and times above.

Please note, the line often extends outside, so prepare for colder temperatures. Please practice social distancing while waiting in line.

Do I need to bring an ID?

Voters are not required to show ID. However, voting judges will be able to look up your information more quickly if you provide ID.
